Description

Artist: (X-RAYS)

Title: A small archive of 14 X-rays and related imagery documenting early use of the technology at Wesleyan University.

Description: Many of the photographs are signed by a student named Edmund D. Searls, who apparently assisted the leading professor on the project (Searls graduated in 1896). The set includes 12 X-rays, an image of what appears to be the apparatus itself, and a portrait of Searls. Printing-out paper prints, the images measuring 4⅝x3¾ to 9¼x7½ inches (11.7x9.5 to 23.5x19.1 cm.), the mounts 5¼x4¼ to 14x11 inches (13.3x10.8 to 35.6x27.9 cm.), 10 with Searls' signature and notations on mount verso (one of these his portrait). 1895

The X-rays include images of hands (one with a diamond ring), legs, and wrists.

Provenance: The Estate of Richard T. Rosenthal, Philadelphia
